Why are operators replacing their legacy OTT platforms — even after significant investments?
We’ve noticed a clear trend: more operators are replacing legacy OTT systems, even those built by major vendors. Connect with the team at IBC 2025 to learn how we’re building a more flexible, future-ready OTT alternative.

Over the past few months, we’ve been fully engaged — finalising long-term projects, expanding our R&D and Business development teams (more on that in future updates), and most notably, welcoming a wave of new clients migrating from legacy OTT platforms to our system.
What’s particularly striking is that many of these platforms were originally deployed by well-known vendors — yet operators are now actively moving away from them, despite having invested significant time and money.
With more than 25 years in the industry, I wanted to reflect on this trend and share the main reasons why operators are replacing their legacy OTT platforms:
1. Lack of Support for New Developments
Many vendors are too slow in delivering the features operators need to remain competitive. Without timely development and flexible updates, platforms quickly fall behind — and so do the operators relying on them.
2. Lack of Innovation
We’ve seen a recurring pattern: vendors pushing white-label solutions with no clear roadmap or versioning strategy. There’s very little focus on evolving the platform, optimising workflows, or introducing capabilities that improve operational efficiency and drive revenue growth.
3. Lack of Transparency
This applies to both technical and commercial aspects. When issues arise, communication is often delayed or incomplete. Pricing for extensions, support, or warranty is rarely well-defined, making it difficult for operators to plan ahead — which leads to frustration and uncertainty.
How do we approach migrations at More Screens?
The most critical part is working in close partnership with the operator to define a clear and achievable migration plan from day one. Our focus is on maximising reuse of existing infrastructure — including Headends, CDNs, STBs, DRM systems, platform hardware, and storage — while ensuring the smooth migration of content libraries, customer data, and entitlements with minimal disruption.
Our modular approach ensures maximum optimisation across technical, operational, and total cost of ownership (TCO) dimensions. For every component, we assess several integration and delivery options — so operators can adopt the path that best fits their budget, goals, capabilities, and timelines.
We also act as a one-stop shop — delivering a complete end-to-end OTT platform. Whether using our in-house solutions or carefully selected third-party products, we take full ownership of the architecture, integration, and delivery. This means less fragmentation, faster deployment, and a single, accountable partner throughout the process.
We treat every migration as a long-term collaboration — not just a system replacement, but a foundation for sustainable innovation and growth.
As summer slowly winds down, we’re entering this next chapter with strong momentum — new projects, new clients, and a shared vision for building better, more reliable, and future-proof OTT solutions.
